It Takes A Village

Tim Bateson of TACIT Contemporary Art invited me to participate in a group exhibition. The brief was to create some new work that references photography but for which the camera’s role is obscured or eliminated!  The exhibition title, Obscure Camera, is a nice wordplay on Camera Obscura (Latin for dark room).  The Camera Obscura was the pre-cursor to the photographic camera.

Tim’s invitation coincided with the birth of my first grandchild and the artistic possibilities were irresistible.  I drew inspiration from the iconic, aboriginal cave hand-prints and the underlying theme came from post-first-grandchild reflections on the African proverb that it “Takes a Village to Raise a Child.”  Mind you, I’m becoming increasingly aware of just who is raising whom…
